Let's Go! We've Got This!

The "Quality of Life" Challenge We Face

The Tri-Cities Region and the diverse environs of the Mid-Columbia region are simply beautiful. This is indeed a fabulous place to live a lifetime, start a business, raise a family or retire. We have developed a culture of caring here that makes citizens the front line in taking care of our surroundings and maintaining the unique quality of life that our beautiful setting has afforded us.

But there are challenges to this culture of care as well as our natural surroundings.

  • As we grow and become more densely populated, citizen-driven community improvement efforts that have become hallmarks of Tri-Cities life have become more and more difficult for individual citizens and small neighborhood groups to organize and sustain on their own.
  • As we shift gradually from a small agricultural and industry-based community to a thriving mixed-use hub characterized by rapid residential, office, and industrial development -- there is a real risk to the inspiring physical appearance of our community and the quality of the natural environment we interact with daily.
  • Let's face it, increasingly it is going to be on us -- everyday citizens like you and I -- to lead the way in making our community the kind of place that remains beautiful for us to live in and share. Governments are going to have fewer resources in the next decade and we all know that politicians are having a difficult time focusing or agreeing on how to make progress on these neighborhood-level issues that truly impact our day-to-day living.
  • That's okay though. Because, together, WE'VE GOT THIS!

We just need an organized citizen-driven effort to empower volunteers to pitch-in where they can  on grassroots community care and beautification activities. We need smart outreach on community sustainability topics like recycling, reuse and solid waste so that we can all participate in making these kinds of efforts PAY OFF in terms of lower local taxes and a greener future.

Drawing resources and ideas from the national Keep America Beautiful organization we will affiliate with once established, Tri-Cities Beautiful will be a hub for community care education and volunteer opportunities throughout the region.

The organization itself, Tri-Cities Beautiful, will be locally chartered and locally run as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization  overseen by a non profit board made up of local citizens, business and local government leaders, neighborhood and community group representatives, homeowners association participants, and individual volunteers.
