Why TCB?

The Tri-Cities Region and the diverse environs of the Mid-Columbia region are simply beautiful. This is indeed a fabulous place to live a lifetime, start a business, raise a family or retire. We have developed a culture of caring here that makes citizens the front line in taking care of our surroundings and maintaining the unique quality of life that our beautiful setting has afforded us.

But there are challenges to this culture of care as well as our natural surroundings. 

• As we grow and become more densely populated, citizen-driven community improvement efforts that have become hallmarks of Tri-Cities life have become more and more difficult for individual citizens and small neighborhood groups to organize and sustain on their own. 
• As we shift gradually from a small agricultural and industry-based community to a thriving mixed-use hub characterized by rapid residential, office, and industrial development -- there is a real risk to the inspiring physical appearance of our community and the quality of the natural environment we interact with daily.
• There is a richness of human diversity and experience in our region now that compels us to find areas of endeavor that we all share in common and to engage in activity as neighbors that brings strength, progress and togetherness to those areas.  The more we work together, the more opportunities we all have to thrive together.
• This kind of growth can put increased pressure on the community environment and quality of life in the form of litter, illegal dumping in natural areas, challenges to our waste management infrastructure, and an overall sense of community "disconnectedness." 

As the area evolves, we need an organized effort to maintain the active engagement of our neighbors in grassroots community care and beautification activity if we are to maintain the sustainability of our unique quality of life in the Tri-Cities. 

That is why we are proposing the establishment of a Keep America Beautiful affiliate organization in the Tri-Cities launching region-wide in 2023!

The organization, Tri-Cities Beautiful, will be locally chartered and locally run as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization emerging as a partnership of local citizens, businesses, local government, neighborhood and community groups, homeowners associations, families and individual volunteers.
